This term's Choral Scholars' Recital will take a slightly different format: Somerville's choral scholars will perform songs and duets from favourite Broadway and West End musicals to raise money for the choir's summer tour to America (see the choir's crowdfunding page).
There will be a post-concert social with free wine and nibbles in Vaughan SCR. See the Facebook event page and the programme for further details. Stefan Schwarz (Choir Manager and SMS Recitals Coordinator) On Wednesday Robert Pecksmith will be playing a lunchtime recital on Oxford Town Hall's 1897 Father Willis organ. The programme will include music by Bach, Schumann, Reger, Mendelssohn, Gowers, Elgar and Williams.
Tickets are £4 and come with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits. Please see the Facebook event page and Robert's website for more details. This week's lunchtime recital will feature the Oxford Guitar Ensemble, a group that gave its first performance at Somerville Chapel in 2006. The concert will include works by Vivaldi, Bizet and Poulenc. See the recitals page to download the full programme.
Stefan Schwarz (SMS Recitals Coordinator) On Friday Jonathan Stamp (Birmingham Conservatoire), organ scholar at Birmingham Cathedral, will be playing a recital on Somerville Chapel's fine Harrison organ. He will be performing works by Buxtehude, Frescobaldi, Sweelinck, Boëllman and Vierne. See the recitals page for further details.
Stefan Schwarz (SMS Recitals Coordinator) As our second contribution to Somerville's Arts Week, we're organising our first open concert of the term. Given the musical talent we have in college, this promises to be a brilliant evening.
