The SMS lunchtime recital in 3rd week (1st November) will be performed by Nicholas Freestone, the Senior Organ Scholar of Worcester College.
His programme includes pieces by Mendelssohn, Finzi amd Duruflé as will as Benjamin Britten's only organ solo work (to mark this year's Britten centenary). The full programme is available for download from the recitals page. Stefan Schwarz (SMS Recitals Coordinator) The SMS Lunchtime Recital Series will resume this week: On Friday (18th October) Giulio Potenza (Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music, London) will be playing piano recital featuring works by Janáček and Schumann as well as a Tchaikovsky paraphrase by Pabst.
One week later (25th October) there will be a chamber music recital of duets for clarinet and bassoon featuring Vani Rajendran and former Somervillian Matt Rattley. Please see our recitals page for details of all of this term's lunchtime recitals. Stefan Schwarz (Recitals Coordinator) It gives me great pleasure to invite you all to our start of year social event this evening, in Vaughan SCR. Note that the start time has been moved half an hour forward from that mentioned in our leaflets - it will begin at 6:30pm. As I said, all are welcome to attend, in particular those who are new to the college. There will be free wine, soft drinks and a variety of snacks available, so do come down, and meet fellow musicians and music lovers. If you are interested in forming an ensemble, this is also a very good opportunity to meet other musicians in Somerville.
I hope to see you later. Robert Pecksmith (Acting SMS President) I would like to invite you all to come along to our start of year SMS meeting. We'll meet at 5pm on Thursday (10th October) in the Terrace/Bar. Please do come along if you would like to get involved with SMS, or have any ideas for things musical, as we will be planning the events for the term.
Hope to see you then, or else at a concert soon! Robert Pecksmith (Acting SMS President) |
