This term's Choral Scholars' Recital will take a slightly different format: Somerville's choral scholars will perform songs and duets from favourite Broadway and West End musicals to raise money for the choir's summer tour to America (see the choir's crowdfunding page).

On Wednesday Robert Pecksmith will be playing a lunchtime recital on Oxford Town Hall's 1897 Father Willis organ. The programme will include music by Bach, Schumann, Reger, Mendelssohn, Gowers, Elgar and Williams.
Tickets are £4 and come with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits. Please see the Facebook event page and Robert's website for more details. This week's lunchtime recital will feature the Oxford Guitar Ensemble, a group that gave its first performance at Somerville Chapel in 2006. The concert will include works by Vivaldi, Bizet and Poulenc. See the recitals page to download the full programme.
Stefan Schwarz (SMS Recitals Coordinator) On Friday Jonathan Stamp (Birmingham Conservatoire), organ scholar at Birmingham Cathedral, will be playing a recital on Somerville Chapel's fine Harrison organ. He will be performing works by Buxtehude, Frescobaldi, Sweelinck, Boëllman and Vierne. See the recitals page for further details.
Stefan Schwarz (SMS Recitals Coordinator) This Friday Luke Faulkner (University of Edinburgh), who performed in two highly successful SMS recitals last year, will be returning to Somerville: His new programme includes works by Rachmaninov, Beethoven and Chopin. Stefan Schwarz (SMS Recitals Coordinator) On Wednesday at 8pm SMS will present From Purcell to 'Show Boat', an eclectic programme of songs, arias and duets performed by members of the Choir of Somerville College. The programme includes works by Händel, Mozart, Gluck, Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Andrew Lloyd Webber and many others.

Isabel, a third-year English student and choral scholar at Somerville, will be performing extracts from song cycles by Elgar, Schumann and Vaughan Williams. This week's recital will feature Danae Eleni (soprano) and Guy Newbury (piano). They will be performing songs by Alban Berg, Emilios Riadis and Guy Newbury.
Danae joined the Choir of Somerville College for a tour to Germany in summer 2005 and has been involved in several recitals and concerts at Somerville Chapel including a performance of Pergolesi's Stabat mater, conducted by David Crown.
